Discussion Facilities: News and Bulletin Boards

Overview of Discussion Facilities at Rutgers

There are two major facilities at Rutgers that act as bulletin boards and discussion groups:

· WebCT discussion groups
· Allaire Forums

Usenet news, an international bulletin board / discussion facility, has been discontinued at Rutgers.

In addition to these, many people use mailing lists for discussions. For a summary of mailing list facilities, please see our section on Email at Rutgers.

There are other bulletin board / discussion facilities available at Rutgers. The most important are based on the web: WebCT and Allaire Forums.

WebCT stands for Web Course Tools. It is a set of web-based tools intended to support courses. One of the tools is a discussion group. While WebCT was originally intended for courses, it would be possible to create a WebCT "course" to handle discussions within a department, college, or any other group of people.

How to create mailing lists
