New Brunswick: The Microcomputer Support Services Group offers free consulting and planning services to Rutgers University departments, faculty and staff. Included in their services are; microcomputer hardware, software and operating system selection, local area network planning services and business needs assessments. In Newark and Camden: For technical planning and assistance for departments in Newark or Camden, contact the respective directors to discuss your situation. The director in Newark is Marie Botticelli (973)353-1731, the Camden director is David Gwalthney (856)225-6286. System administrator supportA variety of resources are available for departmental system administrators through Unix and PC/LAN support groups. Monthly technical meetings explore topical agendas and vendor presentations. In addition, there are active mailing lists for each group providing a forum for information dissemination, inquiries, and peer discussion. There are two web sites summarizing this information.

Departmental system troubleshootingNew Brunswick: Technical staff from the Microcomputer Support Services Group provide a higher-level technical departmental support and will assist system administrators in troubleshooting system software problems via phone or, if necessary, on-site. Contract servicesNew Brunswick: Contractual fee-based services for departmental computing support staff are available through the Microcomputer Support Services Group on a full or part-time basis to assist those departments that do not have a dedicated unit computing specialist. Network design and planningWithin the Telecommunications Division, the Network Engineering Group addresses the integration of new campus-wide or building LANs into the existing network infrastructure for all three campuses. They offer network design and engineering consulting services for departments. Contact the project administrator for Network Engineering, Doris Serheev, at (732)445-4652. Network supportNew Brunswick: The Telecommunications Division has established a Network Support Center for reporting network problems, obtaining status information, etc. They maintain a problem tracking system and dispatch staff for on-site troubleshooting. The support center may be reached by calling (732)445-0327 or by sending email to helpdesk@tdmx.rutgers.edu. In Newark: Newark network problems/information should be reported to the network services number (973)353-5745. They will respond within 24 hours; for more immediate problems call (973)353-1289. On-site service for LAN issues is available on an hourly fee basis. In Camden: Network problems should be reported to the Camden Computing Services main office (856)225-6065. They will make a determination regarding the source of the problem and route the call to the appropriate staff for resolution.
